History
Big Brothers Big Sisters of America has been serving children
since 1903. Today there are more than 470 affiliates nationwide.
Here locally,
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Snohomish County was founded
in 1987 after Paul Seely from the Boeing Company was recruited
to Chair Board Recruitment. Bill Sullivan, Dottie Piasecki,
Sue Gould, Barbara McCarthy, Sue Cooper, Tom Dickson, and
Bob Drewel joined him.
On April 1, 2001
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Snohomish County merged with
the YMCA of Snohomish County. Uniting the organizational
strength, size and mission of the YMCA with the long-standing
programmatic expertise of Big Brothers Big Sisters has made
a dynamic team for providing quality mentoring relationships
throughout Snohomish County.
Mission
BBBS has a prevention-focused organization that addresses
one of the main problems of today's society: lack of caring
adults in children's lives. Providing safe places, caring
adults and productive activities allows us to create an asset-building
environment for youth. By building assets a youth is able
to address multiple problems at once. In many cases, Big Brothers
and Sisters are people you may work or play with- they are
people who find value in our future: our children. |
